Post 2: Creativity

Creativity:
Creativity can be seen in many different ways. Being creative is when you think or design something new and different to other similar things. Creativity is shown when this new thinking or design is different to other existing designs but still attracts people. Creativity is being different and thinking outside the box.

Creativity refers to when someone creates something new that has some kind of value.
However what is determined as 'new' and 'valuable' varies.
Usually 'new' is something that nobody has ever seen before, or a more updated version of something which previously existed. 'Valuable' is usually something which has a meaning and use for many people.
Creativity covers various aspects but usually refer to the four p's, process, product, person and place.

Creativity is defined as the tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others.
In order to be creative, you need to be able to view things in new ways or from a different perspective.
Creativity is any act, idea, or product that changes an existing domain, or that transforms an existing domain into a new one.

I define creativity as the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality.
Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing.
A product is creative when it is novel and appropriate.
The bigger the concept, and the more the product stimulates further work and ideas, the more the product is creative.

Those who are seen as highly skilled or original (famous artists, musicians, film-makers etc). an interesting third alternative is to think about how creativity can be an unconscious, random or collaborative act that becomes more than the sum of its parts.

Pen Video

In class we received a creativity task to create a short clip telling a story involving a pen. Our first attempt used little range of shot sizes and angles and so it wasn't very creative. We kept the same storyline from our first attempt as we thought it was quite creative, she had the pen in her hair but didn't realise. In the second attempt we also used a much wider range of shot sizes and angles making it look more creative. We also moved around a lot more, for example in our first attempt we stayed in one room, whereas in this video we move from the sixth form area down the corridor and into the toilets.

My Creativity

This is an example of my own creativity. I asked a fellow student to help me with this task. I wanted to create something different and so I drew two eyes on each of her hands and as you can see photographed her with her hands over her eyes. We also tried drawing lips on the back of her hand and creating a fist over her own mouth, however this did not create a good effect as much as this did and so I decided on this.

Consequences Game
As a whole class, we played the consequences game. We each had a piece of paper and we started by writing the word 'The' and then an adjective, we then folded the paper over and passed it to the next person who wrote a noun and then folded it over and passed it to the next person. The third person then wrote a verb and then folded it over and passed it on. The fourth person then wrote 'The' and and an adjective and folded it over and passed it on and then the fifth person wrote another noun, folded it over and gave it back to the person who started the game. That person then unfolded the paper which left us each with a sentence. I think the consequences game was quite fun and helped me to understand about creativity. Although the sentences didnt make much sense they were quite creative.
